49m Classic Motor Yacht

The renaissance of new build classic sailing yachts in recent years led this design studio to explore this approach in the classic motor yacht sector.

Extensive research into old publications and marine archives provided the foundation for an initial concept, which we have greatly refined and incorporated into this finished design using modern motor yacht technology with classic lines.

This yacht takes its inspiration from the classic steam ship era of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The early ships were mainly hybrid sailing vessels with large unsightly paddle wheels attached. The arrival of engine driven propellers allowed for the development of vessels that were streamlined, highly graceful and stunningly beautiful ships, which retained the rich heritage of their sailing fore bearers. Unfortunately, not many of these vessels have survived to the present day but those that do are much admired and sought after. With this design we hope to re-capture the grace and elegance of these early masterpieces.

The design will incorporate the highest standards of equipment, materials and workmanship available in the 21st. century. The intent is to provide the best levels of comfort, safety and performance but without any compromise to the classical nature of this yacht. An intimate and comfortable atmosphere for guests has been created throughout. The yacht will also be used as a platform for a number of water sport activities including dinghy sailing, jet skiing, diving, water-skiing, etc. In keeping with this type of vessel a classic power boat tender will be accommodated on the upper deck with easy launching using traditional style davits. The ability to have a drop-down side platform to create a beach club/easy access boarding can also be added to the design.

The vessel will be powered by Twin 559 kW (750 hp) Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines, to provide a cruising speed of 14 knots and a maximum speed of 16 knots. A range of 5000 nm will be achieved.

The beam, draft and stability has been optimised to ensure for maximum passenger comfort in both sea going and harbour environments.

The overall exterior appearance will have mainly painted surfaces with selected areas of trim using highest quality varnished woodwork. All deck equipment will be styled in the “traditional” manner but with all the ease of handling of its modern counterparts.

The essence of the design is to create a modern super yacht in the classical style and tradition of the early 1900’s but surpassing the performance of the vessels of that time.
