There are numerous events that Pendennis sponsors, attends or organises throughout the year, from Boat Shows to Superyacht Sailing Regattas, Awards Ceremonies and Apprenticeship days.

Further information on each of these is shown below.

SYUK Young Designer Competition

The Superyacht UK Young Designer Competition 2017, in partnership with Southampton Solent University, takes place each year at London Boat Show. During the two-day event, 10 third-year design students hand draw yachting concepts to a specific brief, with their designs judged by a panel made up of superyacht industry professionals. This year’s winner was Christopher Karam, a Transport Design student from Staffordshire University, who will be welcomed into a 6-week internship at Pendennis Shipyard later this year.

Antigua Superyacht Challenge

The seventh edition of the Superyacht Challenge Antigua provided an exciting start to the 2017 regatta season. 11 superyachts took part, including Pendennis-built yacht Adela. The regatta is designed to be solely for the pleasure of superyacht owners, their guests and crew. The magnificent fleet took part in three days of spectacular racing. With daily pursuit races along the stunning south coast of Antigua and laid back social events, The Superyacht Challenge Antigua is a wonderful celebration of sailing and parties.

The Superyacht Challenge Antigua has one clear objective; to provide all the facilities to stage an ideal event for an exclusive selection of yachts, where fair racing and good companionship are valued above all else. The final results are on the regatta website: Although Adela didn’t have the results she hoped for, the yacht was awarded The Gosnell Trophy, a perpetual trophy awarded to the yacht, who in the opinion of the competitors and the race committee, has competed in the Spirit of the Regatta, where they have sailed as hard as they can with the equipment available while still representing the yacht well ashore.

National Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2017 is co-ordinated by the National Apprenticeship Service, the week is designed to celebrate the positive impact apprenticeships and traineeships have on individuals, businesses and the economy. Employers, apprentices, business support organisations, colleges and training organisations and schools across the country are encouraged to support the week by hosting activities to showcase the achievements and benefits of apprenticeships.

As part of last year’s event the Pendennis apprentices provided vital labour to several local projects including BF Adventure, Children’s Hospice South West, Pendennis Brass Band, St Francis School, Falmouth Cricket Club and Mylor Sailability.

Following the great success of the 2016 initiative, Pendennis was keen to promote a similar local community-based activity once more, and so the apprentices will  once again be working hard in the local community during this year’s NAW.

St Barth's Bucket Regatta

The 2017 St Barth’s Bucket Regatta looks set to be an exciting regatta with an eclectic fleet gathered for the racing which takes place from 16-19 March. Pendennis will be attended as a sponsor of the event and to support the Pendennis-built yachts Adela and Rebecca. We are also looking forward to seeing the J-Class fleet racing, with a particular interest in those yachts that have undergone a refit in Falmouth: Lionheart, Ranger, Shamrock V and Velsheda.

The first Bucket regatta was organized in Nantucket, Mass, in August, 1987. Due to its popularity the event expanded with the first St Barth’s Bucket Regatta taking place in 1995.

World Superyacht Awards

The World Superyacht Awards 2017 will take place on Saturday May 13 and are to be held once again in the beautiful city of Florence.

These awards recognise the remarkable ingenuity and innovation demanded by the design, engineering and construction of the world’s finest luxury yachts. Attended by the elite of the superyacht world, owners and industry leaders came together to recognise the finest superyachts launched throughout 2016.

In 2016 the Pendennis refit of classic motor yacht Malahne was recognised as the Best Rebuild, and this year we have entered MY Constance and MY Aquila into the refit category of the awards.

America's Cup Superyacht Regatta

Boat International Media will be hosting the America’s Cup Superyacht Regatta during the 35th America’s Cup in June. For the second time, superyachts are invited to join the America’s Cup action and participate in their very own regatta, to be held in Bermuda, from June 12 – 15, 2017. Pendennis Shipyard is looking forward to supporting Adela and Rebecca at the regatta.

America's Cup J-Class Regatta

In June 2017, the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda will be graced by the J Class fleet with their own regatta on the 16th, 19th and 20th June. These majestic titans of sail competed for the Cup during the 1930s and are perhaps still some of the most famous yachts afloat. Only ten J Class yachts were ever built, of which three originals survive today, including Shamrock V and Endeavour which raced for the America’s Cup in 1930 and 1934 respectively.

Eight J Class yachts are expected in Bermuda with seven anticipated to compete in the J Class regatta. This will be the first time in history that seven J Class yachts have raced against each other. Pendennis will be supporting several of the fleet who have undergone refits at Pendennis in Falmouth, including Lionheart, Velsheda, Shamrock V and Ranger.

Superyacht Cup, Palma

Pendennis is a long term supporter of the annual Superyacht Cup in Palma. The Superyacht Cup is the longest running superyacht regatta in Europe and the Mediterranean, with racing this year taking place from 21st-24th June.

The regatta uses the International Superyacht Rule (ISYR) for handicapping, which has been used at several international superyacht regattas including the Pendennis Cup.
