Lionheart

Story

The beautiful modern 43.4m J-Class Yacht Lionheart has visited Pendennis three times for refit works. She first visited Falmouth in 2012 for minor work and on leaving experienced a spectacular start to her racing career, winning the Kings 100 Guinea Cup in Cowes.

Her second refit was completed in May 2015, with works including her five-year survey programme and exterior paint works. The refit prepared her for competing in the 2015 Falmouth J-Class regatta, which took place from the 23rd-27th June, providing a dramatic week of racing between the three competing yachts: Lionheart, Ranger and Velsheda, with Lionheart securing victory in the final race.

Over the years Lionheart has enjoyed an ongoing maintenance programme at both the Pendennis Falmouth and Palma facilities, although she returned to Falmouth once more in 2016 for fine-tuning before the highly competitive regatta season ahead. The team’s hard work and crew’s strict training regime was rewarded as 2017 proved to be a very special year for the modern J Class yacht, sailing to victory against 6 other Js during the Americas Cup in Bermuda to win both the Superyacht Regatta and the J Class Regattas. Two months later, much to the delight of the refit team in Falmouth, Lionheart gained a further victory at the J Class World Championships.
